Why does my Dishwasher need a High Loop

March 8, 2023/in Uncategorized

A high loop is an essential component of a dishwasher installation that prevents dirty water from flowing back into the dishwasher. It is a simple but effective mechanism that involves creating a loop in the dishwasher drain hose that is installed above the sink’s flood level rim. The flood level rim is the point at which water would overflow from the sink. The high loop ensures that water can flow out of the dishwasher and into the sink but cannot flow back into the dishwasher from the sink.

Another reason why a high loop is essential is that it is often required by building codes and regulations. Most building codes require a high loop in a dishwasher installation to prevent backflow and protect against the contamination of potable water. Failure to comply with building codes and regulations can result in hefty fines and even legal action in some cases.

Fortunately, installing a high loop in a dishwasher installation is relatively easy and straightforward. It involves creating a loop in the dishwasher drain hose that is installed above the sink’s flood level rim. The loop should be secured in place with a clamp or tie to prevent it from coming loose. It is also essential to ensure that the drain hose is properly secured and not kinked, as this can impede the flow of water and cause drainage problems.
